Traces in the Sand – Cycling Route on Terschelling
The 'Traces in the Sand' cycling route offers a unique way to explore the rich history of Terschelling. Stretching approximately 40 km, this route takes you past the island’s most remarkable historical sites. It is marked with characteristic Terschellinger paving stones and can be cycled in either direction, depending on the wind.
The route passes landmarks such as the more than 400-year-old Brandaris lighthouse in West-Terschelling, the beachcombers' barn in Hoorn, and the ancient Stryper cemetery in Midsland. You will also come across the Lutine Monument and many other historical points of interest. This route brings the traces of the past to life and offers a deep insight into the island's cultural heritage.
A special 72-page book, 'Traces in the Sand,' accompanies the route, richly illustrated and filled with stories about the island and its inhabitants over the centuries.
