Nature is at its most beautiful in the early morning. Wake up to the first rays of sunlight shining through the treetops, drops of mist glistening on the leaves and the birdsong in the dawn. With the ranger you can take a nice walk through and around the Formerumer forest. The Formerumerbos was once created to prevent the dunes from dominating the area. Many different types of trees have been planted, making this one of the most varied forests on Terschelling. Many birds are found here, such as great spotted woodpecker, willow warbler, siskin, tree creeper, buzzard and various species of tits. The forest is also rich in mushrooms. On the east side of the Formerumer forest lies the Liesinger Plak, a wet dune valley. You can see many water birds here, but also natterjack toads and various plant species. The tour starts at 8:00 AM in April, May and September and at 8:30 AM in October. Duration of the excursion is 1.5 hours.

Terschelling consists of 80 percent nature. None of the Wadden Islands is as varied as Terschelling. Between the two seas lie forests, beaches, dune valleys and salt marshes, polders and heathland. A long string of villages connects west with east.
