The Terschellinger harbor is also the only natural bay in the Netherlands and has been the home port of the Terschellinger fishing fleet for centuries. At the moment this includes a small number of fishing vessels which mainly fish for shrimp. High speed is still in Terschellinger's blood. Many islander men are still employed in seafaring. It is therefore not for nothing that a higher Maritime Academy is located in West-Terschelling. This school bears the name of the world-famous explorer Willem Barentsz, whose roots lie on the island. The harbor is also where the ferries have their moorings. It is a beautiful sight to arrive in the port of Terschelling, where you can immediately walk into the village of West-Terschelling with the Brandaris as the radiant center.
