In 2016 it was 350 years ago that the English Furie off the Vlieland coast destroyed more than 150 merchant ships. Around 2000 people were killed. A day later, the village of West-Terschelling burned down. Burning trade ships in the Vlie. A big fire in West Terschelling. The English admiral Robert Holmes changed tactics during the Second Anglo-Dutch war and attacked ordinary civilians. The disaster that he unleashed was commemorated in 2016 on both Vlieland and Terschelling.
